1.      Can a residential homeowner do their own electrical work?

 

Only on a homeowners primary residence or for a member(s) of his/her immediate

family. Permits and inspections are required (PL 1962c162 of NJSA 45:5A-18).

 

2.      What electrical code does Wall Township use?


The most recent addition of the National Electrical Code which is part of the National

Fire Protection Association of Boston, Ma.

 

Electrical codes are updated every four years.

 

3.      In hiring an electrical contractor how does one know if a contractor is in good standing

with the Board of Electrical Contractors?

 

Licensee shall furnish a wallet size identification card issued by the Board of Electrical Contractors bi-annually.

4.      How does one calculate amperage load of an electrical service or system?

 

Chapter Nine or Appendix D of the National Electrical Code has examples of

sizing of same including commercial or residential systems.

 

5.      What is a GFI Device?

 

A GROUND FAULT CIRCUIT INTERRUPTER is a device designed to protect

people against electrocution. The device immediately shuts off the electric current

when a difference of five mill amperes is detected.
