4/29/2020 Update

We are pleased to inform you that the Township Parks and Bike Path will be re-opened effective Friday May 1, 2020.  The parks will be opened for activities such as walking, jogging, and biking under the following guidelines for the benefit of all of our residents:

  1. All current social distancing guidelines must be followed.
  2. The following activities remain prohibited and the corresponding facilities remain closed:

                 a.  Group activities

                 b.  Team sports and practices

                 c.  All playground equipment will remain closed

                 d.  Basketball and Tennis courts, and Baseball fields remain closed

                 e.  All facilities and equipment in Orchard Park remain closed

                 f.  All Township restroom facilities remain closed

                 g.  Marconi Dog Park remains closed.

  1. The Township requests facial coverings be used in all cases.  Such usage should mirror that which is being implemented in supermarkets and grocery stores.
  2. Those persons enjoying the parks with their dogs are reminded that all dogs must be on a leash.  In addition, please aid in the mutual enjoyment of our parks by all of our residents by picking up after your dog.

While the original decision to close our parks to all activities was difficult, the combination of closure of the State and County parks and especially other large park systems in our neighboring municipalities made it unreasonable to remain open as the Township believed it was not wise to be the lone park system that would have been supporting a region as opposed to our municipality.   Since that time we had continually consulted with our larger neighboring towns to discuss the symbiotic relationship between our facilities.  Beginning this past Monday we began discussing plans to re-open our parks with a target date of May 1st.  You will note that similar sized towns with larger park systems will be making similar announcements as well.  We would like to thank their officials for the cooperative thoughts and diligence on this and other COVID-19 related issues.

Finally and most importantly, we would like to take this opportunity to thank you and your family for complying with the various operational modifications the Township has been required to make during this unprecedented period of time.

We are pleased to advise you that the Township has extended the grace period for the current property tax bills to June 1, 2020.  As you are probably aware, this quarterly payment is due on May 1, 2020 and had a payment grace period that would have expired on May 11th.  While the Township desires to provide ample flexibility to our tax payers during this difficult time, we are bound by state law regarding tax payments.  Thankfully, we finally received the relief that we have been requesting when the State provided the option for the Township to extend the deadline until June 1, 2020.
Please be advised under this extension, no penalties or interest will accrue to this payment as long is it is paid by the June 1st deadline.  However, payments received after this date will accrue interest retroactive to the original due date of May 1, 2020.  Also, for our currently enrolled direct withdrawal customers, the withdrawal is scheduled for May 19, 2020.
Thank you for your continued collective efforts as we progress through this pandemic and attempt to manage the effects upon our residents, businesses, and Township.
